Print FAQs You Don't Have to Be Afraid to Ask

Printing can feel intimidating, especially if you’re new to it or ordering something important. At CatPrint, we hear a lot of print FAQs, and many of them start with, “This might be a silly question, but…” It’s not silly. It’s normal.

Printing doesn’t have to feel scary. If you’ve ever hesitated to place an order because you were worried about asking the “wrong” question, this is your reminder: You’re not behind. You’re learning. And we’ve got you.

💡“What does ‘print-ready’ mean?”

It means your file is set up and ready to be uploaded, ordered and sent to print!

A print-ready file typically includes:

  • The correct size

  • Proper bleed (if needed)

  • High enough resolution (300 DPI)

  • CMYK color mode (not RGB)

  • Text and important details safely away from the edges (for full bleed)

If that sounds overwhelming, don’t worry. Our free proofing options help catch any concerns before the full order is sent to print.

💡“Will my colors look the same in print as they do on my screen?”

Not exactly, and that’s okay. Screens use light (RGB), while our printers use CMYK.

This means:

  • Colors may appear slightly less bright in print

  • Very dark colors can lose detail if not adjusted

  • Neon or glowing colors won’t print the same way they display

That’s why we always recommend selecting and reviewing a hard copy proof carefully for color-critical projects.

💡“Do I really need to include bleed in my file?”

If you want your design to print all the way to the edge of the paper, then yes. Even the best cutting equipment has tiny tolerances, and a proper full bleed setup within your file gives your design room to shift without showing thin white lines after trimming.

💡“What paper should I choose? I have no idea.”

You’re not alone — paper choice is one of the hardest parts.

A few general tips:

  • Glossy: Bold, vibrant colors and photos

  • Satin: Rich color without heavy shine

  • Uncoated/Plain: Soft, modern, writable, and minimal

  • Heavier stocks: Feel more premium and durable

Think about how the piece will be used – handed out, mailed, framed, written on – and choose from there. We also offer free sample books to review our paper options in hand.

💡“What if I mess something up?”

That’s exactly why CatPrint offers:

  • Free online proofs

  • Free hard copy proofs

  • File review by real humans

Our team checks files every day and flags common issues before they become expensive mistakes. Printing shouldn’t feel like a gamble. If you receive your order and do have concerns, contact our Customer Service Team, and we will be happy to help find a solution.

💡“Is it okay if I’m not a designer?”

Absolutely. Many CatPrint customers are:

  • Small business owners

  • Artists and illustrators

  • Nonprofits and community groups

  • Event planners and coordinators

  • Marketing professionals

You don’t need to be an expert, you just need a goal. We’ll help guide you the rest of the way.

💡“Can I ask for help… even if I’m not sure what I need?”

Yes. Please do. If you know what you want to create but not how to print it, our team is here to help with anything else! There’s no pressure: just support.
